Ordinary household routines offer many opportunities for your child to learn and practice number skills, and also feel important about being a helper. Invite your child to help you set up for a meal, snack, or dessert. How many people do we have? How many plates, spoons, or snack items do we need? Let's count to make sure we have the right number of each item as we put them out. Each person may get just one plate, but two crackers or three apple slices. Counting these will double or triple the fun and introduce your child to the concept of sets.
