Patterns are everywhere in the natural world. Over time, your child will become better and better at identifying and creating increasingly complex patterns. Invite your child to play with patterns using his own body. Start the game off by choosing a short sequence of body movements or sounds that will form one unit; for example one clap, then one foot stomp, and then one pat on the belly. To make a pattern, repeat this unit several times, inviting your child to join in. Once he gets the hang of it, suggest a different pattern or invite your child to suggest one. Who can make the funniest pattern?
