Have children recall the book they read this morning, Nothing Sticks Like a Shadow. Then ask,
- Do you think your shadow is “sticky” like Rabbit’s? How?
- Like Rabbit, you tried to make your shadow disappear. How did you do it?
- What did you discover about disappearing shadows? When do they disappear? Why do you think so?
Talk about the Trace Your Shadow (if children made drawings on paper, display them). Ask,
- What can you tell about yourself from looking at your shadow?
- How is your shadow different from the other children’s shadows? How is it the same?
Review the “Our Ideas About Shadows” chart and add any new ideas children might have as a result of your discussion.
Tell children that at pick-up you will give their parents or guardians a Family Science Letter on shadows. The letter has lots of shadow explorations that they can do together with their families. Encourage children to share any shadow discoveries they make at home.
