Materials
- cardboard tubes (toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls) split horizontally to form troughs; one half tube per child
- a quarter of a piece of yellow construction paper for each child
Key Science Concepts
- An object placed on a ramp will roll, slide, or stay put.
- Objects that slide are more likely to move on steeper inclines, and both rolling and sliding objects move faster down steeper inclines.
Directions
Tell children that in this activity they will do the same thing Raccoon did in the video: make a slide for Peep.
- Pass out the construction paper and cardboard tube to each child.
- Tell children to crumple the construction paper into a little ball—the little yellow ball is Peep!
- Ask them to try the different things that Raccoon tried:
- What happens when you put “Peep” on the tube of cardboard?
- What happens when you tilt the tube?
- How can you make Peep slide quickly? How can you make Peep slide slowly?
