Review today’s explorations and ideas about ramps.

Take a look at the “Slide, Roll, Stay in Place” chart together. What did children discover about objects that roll and objects that slide? What do objects that roll have in common? What do objects that slide have in common? How are objects that roll and objects that slide different?

Were there any objects that could slide AND roll? If so, ask them to explain how this could happen. (Children may notice how the position of an object affects whether it rolls or slides: a cylindrical block placed horizontally on a ramp will roll; the same block placed vertically will probably slide.)

Go over the ramps you’ve added to the “Ramps Around Us” chart today. Ask children to explain how they think some of these ramps can help people.
