This game encourages children to use the words planter, seed, and sprout.   

Directions

Tell children that when plants grow from seeds, they first grow roots, which they should see happening with their seeds, and then sprout out of the ground. We’re going to play a game called “Seed, Seed, Sprout!”

1. Have children sit in a circle, and assign one child to be the first “planter.” Explain that the planter will walk around the outside of the circle and tap each player gently on the head and say “seed.” Then, unexpectedly, the planter will tap a child and say “sprout” instead.
2. Tell them that when the planter says “sprout,” that child has to sprout (pop up) and try to tap the planter before he or she gets all the way around the circle. Say, If the planter makes it all the way around the circle to your spot, he or she sits down and you become the next planter.
3. Continue playing until all children have the chance to be the planter.

Ask children, How were we like plants when we played the game? Why was the person who jumped up called the “sprout?” Ask them which role they liked to play best—seed, sprout, or planter—and why.
