Week 3: Sink or Float
This week, children will continue their exploration of water by investigating objects that sink and float. They’ll test whether the weight, shape, or type of material something is made out of helps it float or sink. They will experiment with floating and sinking in both still water and moving water. In the second half of the week, they will build boats. They’ll investigate ways to make boats float—and ways to make them sink. They will finish the week by designing boats that can hold the weight of lots of pennies. The guided activities can take place indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather.
